Can you soak rubber and plastic parts (i.e. suction cups, o-rings) in vinegar/water solution without harming them?

doesn't seem to harm anything, all the seals on my pumps and skimmer are fine after many hours of exposure to a water/vinegear mix.

about 2/3 to 1/3 (water/vin) mix works well for me.

I am sure if you did a prolonged study you would find that a piece of rubber breaks down faster in vinegar than pure water, but I can't imagine it is a measurable difference in short (as in hours compared to weeks) exposures. I say go for it.

What ever I can bick up at the store for $.50 a botle. If I feel like being fancey I use red wine vinegar... If I am dealing with asian fish (or south pacific fish) I use rice wine vinegar to make them feel more at home!

BTW: J/K

safest is distilled white vinegar... others can quite easily have contaminants but probably won't do any harm. Keep it safe and buy distilled white vinegar is my suggestion.
