I was just curious if you can run a protein skimmer in an aquaclear 75 wet dry system? I currently am transferring from a 20 gallon nano cube to a 72 bowfront so i dont know much about about the ability of some of the equipment? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, any lighting recommendations...? Thanks

well the tank is a 72 bowfront with overflow, wet/dry (aquaclear 75 i think), uv sterilizer but no skimmer and was set up as just a fish tank but id like to start it out as fowlr tank and then go from there...the lighting is horrible and i would like to upgrade to support some of my corals as i have a 20 gallon nano cube but i dont have the funds to go all out...thoughts?

green polyps, green star polyps, some smalll xenia, and a struggling flower pot...any recommndations for a HOB skimmer or should i just wait and get a sump...

That model of wet/dry, while "rated" for a 75g system, is very small. You might be able to fit a small skimmer in there but it will be tight. A larger sump would be recommended but if that's not an option for you, measure the available space in the wet/dry (ie for a skimmer footprint) and that will help you check out options. Most skimmer specs include the footprint of the device - so you can establish how much skimmer you have room for.

well i only assume its a 75 but it could be the 300/400 model ( i am just not sure how to tell honestly) because like i noted, i recently inherited all this with the purchase. Also, i prob wont move alot of the coral over because im looking to make a clean start but the 72 will start with fish then move to a reef...

Jenn, ill take the measurements later today to see what kind of space i have....thanks for the input tho

If you measure the unit I can check against the specs and see what model it is.

They get bigger as the number gets higher. I don't think the 300 would fit under a 72.

A picture would help too if possible.
