I have quite a few of these "pairs" of tentacles coming out of rock holes inside my tank, any ideas what they are? I thought they might be brittle stars who live in the holes but I've never seen the thing come out. Also, I have seen smaller brittle stars moving around but are pure white body wise.

Any help is appreciated :)

The ophiuroids are typically nocturnal scavengers. You may never see the whole thing unless you camp out by your tank at night with a flashlight. :)

FYI: mine also come out at feeding time if the flow is off or low.

Those are annoying little buggars! I had one call my big green monti home... He nearly killed the whole bottom half by annoying it to death! I had to remove the entire rock and pick him off with tweezers (and broke a couple legs off in the process- which then I had to catch them too!) The Monti has recovered, but for a while there, it had a big dead circle where the star would reach to.

I would just rather not have them. If there was a fish or something that ate them- I'd buy two!

They just seem creepy to me but hasn't really bothered anything yet so I'll let them pick up the scraps and serve as clean up.
