What color background?

Hey guys what color background do you like? I want to paint the back of my tank either dark blue or black which do you like better?

Black makes corals pop more. You notice most online coral sites are done in black for this reason.Ive had blue and black black looks great blue looks 1970-1980ish to me.

haha never thought bout the blue that way but it does make sense. did the brady bunch have a aquarium? lol

I prefer black, but blue is not bad either. I have also seen blue and black combined that look nice, like a fade from blue to black. All my tanks back glass are painted with a flat black latex paint.

if you want to just try it out.. go get some of the plastic "static cling" privacy window tinting at home depot ($15) and put it across the back of your tank..

if you don't like it.. you can peel it right off.. (i put it on my 30gal in the kitchen - It worked perfectly)

Having had both, I would say it depends on your lighting and sandbed.

My 75 had a blue background, the sand was pinkish, and it had T5's. It looked good to me. My 90 has/had a black background and ultra white sand. With T5's everything looked pastel (same bulbs that were over the 75 mind you) and faded. With halides, it just looked right.

Go with blue with equipment used in 70's

Originally I was going to go with the blue but am quite thankful that I didn't. I settled on black and am very pleased with the clarity and how colors of coral and fish look really nice.

I like my coraline colored background, heh.

Try using the removable background from petsmart or so to see what you like most then you can go permanent. IMO black brings out the stuffs more.

yea ive had the black background from petsmart on my freshwater tank only thing i didnt like was it seemed to reflect a lot of light

that's true, and it's because it's black but glossy, but you get the idea. I painted my black and it looks great, again IMO.

Do Black or Black that fades into Blue. A guy over on RC did that and it looked downright amazing. That would ramp up the difficulty though.

I just painted my new tank blue... the others we have or had, are all done with black. I did a very dark blue. We'll see how it looks... I really don't want to have to redo it!

I like the deep blue myself. I like the black also, but seem to be drawn more to the blue.
