What do bite marks look like on fish? (or is it ich? LOL)

Well, I just noticed a bump on my large female clown's jaw. It looks swollen, sticking out, slightly red, with a protrusion that looks like flesh. She's not breathing heavily, but she is</em> being skiddish around the YWG. Normally she teases the heck out of the YWG, but now she's backing away from him. Very hesitant to steal his food too. Could it be a bite or something else?

An injury is the preferable option over a disease. I'll get a photo when the lights go on in the morning.

Alright, here's some shots of the clown!

It looks like a bit of Lymphocystis to me (although I might be wrong). If that's what it is, it's viral, brought on by stress. Usually goes away on its own when the stress is resolved.

If she's skittish, that's another sign of stress - if you can figure out what's causing the stress and remedy that, the lymph should go away.

Well, I thought perhaps it was a bite because she refuses to go near the YWG now. Normally she's all about teasing him and stealing his food. That's the only thing she's slightly skiddish about. I've also been having an issue with the temp swings...

I doubt a yellow watchman would/could do any damage to a clown (that is what YWG means, yes?) - if anything I'd bet the clown would harass the goby.

Temp swings are a stressor though - that could easily be the cause.

Jenn

Yep, a yellow watchman... normally she dangles her tail in front of his face until he bites her. She's been nipped several times.

The heater I've been using is a 100w in a 20 gallon, but it's one of those glass ones by Hydor. I think I might be better off using a 50w heater.

Jenn, any recommendations for some supplements just to boost her immune system? Garlic?

I've read bad things about those Hydor Theo heaters - haven't used them but from postings here they are bad news.

I'd probably get rid of that - other than temp swings it could also be leaking voltage - unsafe for you and the critters.

Good diet, good water quality - vitamin C. Garlic is good so is Seachem Vitality or other vitamins/amino acid supplements for fish.

Jenn

Yeah, I have no idea how old the heater is either since it was used... You might end up seeing me this evening, Jenn! (Depends if I can get a car seat, my nephew's with me again. He loved going to your shop the last time!)

Not to my knowledge. And yeah, anchor worms are nasty.

Tamara was just here - got a new heater and some Vitality - hopefully the heater issue is now solved and the stress will subside and this might clear up on its own.

Jenn

Well, new heater is in and the tank temp has stayed at a cozy 78!

They just gobbled down Vitality soaked food. The dogs were quite interested in it while I was soaking the mysis and pellets. :D

Awesome! Go Office Space on that Theo heater for me please. I hate those things. Good for a brute trash can and that's about it. They always get stuck ON with people including me

But only barely... mine heated my Brute to 92.9 while set on 79. Not stuck on, just that's when the thermostat kicked off. I refuse to buy a temp controller for my trash can...

Smoothie, I'm seriously considering it! With the Hydor heater, I was getting high temps of 85F. It wouldn't shut off so I'd have to unplug it. Then it'd get too cold, almost 70F!

This new heater is keeping the tank at 78F without lights and 80F with lights. Aaah. It's such a difference! The clowns are a lot more energetic today.

As of today, the clown has no raised bump left on her jaw. It is now a darker orange color where the Lymphocystis was. She's back to terrorizing the yellow watchman goby!
