Everyone should have some basic stuff on hand for when Murphy drops in.

Curious as to what everybody keeps?

My list:
35g new water, 35g RODI water at all times. I'd like to have enough to do a 50% WC, and will as soon as I get one more Brute.
spare return pump
spare heater
spare powerhead
Prime
carbon
Metro/Focus
Baking soda/vinegar for emergency pH issues
HOB filter and plenty of filter media
Generator large enough to run the entire system, or the home essentials plus the bare necessities for the tank.
Kept my RKL when I went to the RKE, so I have a backup there (as well as a backup PC4). These aren't total necessities, of course.

I also keep my retired light bulbs, just in case.

Future items: Spare temp probe

I used to have tons of back up stuff (filters, pumps powerheads, medicine), but then my wife decided that i was begining to become a 'horder' and made me down size. Now i keep, carbon, extra filter floss, one extra power head, 8.4, balanace, 15g salted RO, and lots of HOPE!

My list:
- (7) 32 gal Brute Trash Cans - I use one for my RO reservoir and another for my mixing station though.
- Several powerheads
- Spare heater
- Prime
- Balance
- Carbon
- Generator for the system only... for running the return and heaters.
- 20 gallons RO
- 20 gallons SW

American Express

Seriously... literally nothing. I have buckets, but no room for any larger storage.

I keep the whiskey reserved for my doom's day supply list... too bad we drank it at my buddy's wedding... i guess that is a doom's day for someone

A spare tank, or a large bin that can double as a tank in case something goes horribly wrong in the main tank.

In addition to items aleady mentioned, I have:
* Deep cycle 12 volt battery
* 1,000 watt inverter
* ~10-15 gallons of gasoline that I rotate at least monthly for my gas generator (to power for 2+ days)
* Coral Rx for pests

There was a posting about this on Reef Tools this morning (saw it via Facebook).

Not sure I'd agree with all of their choices, but there's some good suggestions to be had.

QT tank
A couple of medications for parasites and/or infections.
Carbon
PolyFilter
Prime or Alpha
Salt
Extra RO water
Backup pump and/or spare parts for pump - in a pinch powerheads can keep water moving if main pump fails but it's good to have a backup just in case.

Those are what comes to the top of my head.

I try to keep some Weld on 3 and 16. Can't remember how many times I've taken a skimmer or reactor off line to clean and ended up cracking something. It always happens late on a Sunday evening.

That's what spurred the thread here. :)

:yay:

i actually thought about this yesterday when we lost power. I keep Josh from Lori's number on my phone, and then the hope that y'all would foster or adopt anyone in dire need. but i DO have 30 gallons of rodi water, baking soda, epsom salts, table salts, prime, a 55 LR tank, a 20 g and 10 g cycled freshwater, a bunch of towels from goodwill, and a hang on the side refuge tank.

plus a garage load of stuff that i can use in a dire emergency.

Past that I keep mostly a good range of media, prime, stability, and whatever it in my spare equipment box.

That's a pretty spiffy idea... I can't make myself spend the bucks plus store a 150g Rubbermaid "just in case".
