What do you think so far?

I have a 50 gal tank that has been going about 8 months now. Had I known how much saltwater was going to cost over fresh, I wouldn't have gotten into it, not at this point with the economy. Let's just say I got far enough into it, that quitting would not make sense at the time. I was encouraged to keep going by other reefers.

What I got is a 36x18x18 tank. See the pic below. No sump. Aqua C Remora with Mag 3 pump. Older Compact Sun 2x175 watt MH with 2 VHO (overkill maybe, but it was a good deal:D). Bulbs, not the shield, are about 11" from the water. MH runs about 3 hrs, the VHO about 8 hrs. Korolia Nano blows behind the rocks. Params are pH 8.2, ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrate 20-40 based on API, temp is 76, SG is 1.023. 2-3 hermits, 1-2 ceriths, 1 olive snail, 1-2 nassarius, 1 feather duster, 2 firefish, 1 clown, 1 neon goby, 1 pearl jawfish. Mushroom came with the live rock, just added the green star and zoa.

Thinking about getting a Korolia Ev 750 to replace the penguin. Still wanting a couple chromis and a flasher wrasse. Any and all opinions and suggestions are welcome. What do you think of the light placement and cycle? Where I have the corals OK? What are some other corals I could try and where to place those? Powerhead placement good? I don't seem to have any stagnant areas now, maybe not enough flow. Thanks!

I like your tank so far. I know how you feel on the cost because I just started my own first salt tank and the amount of money I was hoping to spend doubles then triples pretty fast. Glad to hear you didn't give up.

I agree with you changing the penguin out for a koralia. Your aquascaping is really nice. I can't read in the pictures what corals you have or see them to answer the placement question.
Do you have a glass lid on your tank or is that egg crate?

Got a zoa toward the top and a green Star poly just a little lower. In the process of making Acroholic's mesh top.

Oh then you are golden. I would even say slowly move them down. You can grow those on your sandbed and make room for other coral that need more light
