I find it hard to believe that EVERYONE uses the carbon dose $360 regulator. For those that use a reactor which regulator do you use on your co2 tank?!

you really don’t need a carbon doser since you are just turning the regulator on and off. I think the reason why carbon doser shine compare to Milwaukee or other brand is simply the ability to fine tune, which is very critical for planted tank but not as much in the reef environment.

Milwaukee here, works PERFECT, $80. put your money in a controller, not a regulator/solenoid.
A controller as in something like an apex?
I’ve seen mixed reviews on that one but you like it? How long have you been running it?

Yes. With a quality pH controller you should be able to use any regulator successfully. I would understand spending money to get precise co2 injection if you weren't using a controller.
Is the apex ph feature good enough for this purpose? If not, what do you consider as a quality ph controller?
I only have experience with apex, pinpoint also makes a good controller. As far as the apex being good enough, thousands of reefers use it to control calcium reactor.
