What height for sump baffles?

I am converting a 29 gallon tank into a 3 section sump: skimmer / refugium / return. Are there any guidelines on the height of the baffles between the sections?

depends on the volume you want for each of the sections, and whether you'll be running a skimmer inside one of the sections (skimmer materials will let you know whether there is a minimum submerged depth for the skimmer to function efficiently (my red sea skimmer says approximately 8 inches)

I've seen them anywhere from 9" to over 14".....

measure from the top of each "used" section to the top rim to get your reserve volume - assuming the sump will be level
