my good ol euro reef skimmer is the one in question. if there is a power outage the pump will restart after it comes back on , but will produce no bubbles.

I have to blow in the intake a little to get it started and then it is fine.

it hasn't always done this.

what causes it?

Try cleaning the air intake to the venturi. Either push a piece of wire through the air intake or heat up a cup of RODI water and suck it through the air intake to disolve any mineral buildup. Watch the skimmer level when running water through the air intake. You may need to re-adjust your skimmer levels after cleaning the air intake.

Bingo...I love my ER135 but the venturi design is a little annoying, I have to clean mine out once a month or so to keep it running at optimum. Salt creep builds up in the plastic piece that slides over the pump intake, clogging it up over time. That's why your pump is having trouble sucking in air on start-up.

I clean mine with a toothpick and it's good to go.
