What is the deal with white egg crate

Why has everyone migrated from white egg crate to black egg crate ?

I purchased some from lowes yesterday to build a skimmer stand and this question came to mind.

Supposedly the white egg crates will eventually leach PO4 and cause algae bloom - I certainly do not have first hand experience so take it for what its worth.

Yea I think I herd something like that. The new egg crate they sell is tons thinner, don't know if it has those same properties.

Just for looks. Black makes the colors pop better than white.
