what is this blob?

I have these two blobs on my bleached acan. It is blood red in color. looks like a ghost with two arms each. started out looking like a small pellet size piece of food or waste that the acan had. Then it grew. has been there about a week and a half. Any ideas? Thanks Shane

It almost looks like cyanobacteria on top of bubble algae.... lol

Yup it sure looks like cyano.

Ok thanks. If it is cyano, I will take the steps to stop it. I have been leaving the light on longer than I want because I have been getting home later for the last month. So I think it is a combination of things. Thanks for the answer.

Get a timer or are you doing this to exrend your viewing window...I do that all the time. I have an exercise bike by my tanks and sometimes I just get a late start and like to watch the tanks as I pedal.

Yes that is exactly what it is and I havent been getting home untill 9pm. So running them way too long. I just sit and watch tank to unwind from work. I know I have to stop but I still want to watch tank. It is sad but I will leave the small blue leds (3 leds in two different lights that came when bought tank new. Marineland small lights) on so I can look at it but fish go to bed when I do that. Right now it is just the two small spots. So I left light off today and will for next two and only use the room light when I feed. Cut back on that also. Will see what happens now. What threw me was the way it looked and it being on the Acans not the sand or rock like I would have expected to be. If you have a small kid and they watched Monsters vs. Aliens. It looks just like that blob with one eye and blue.

I was having this issue with my schedule , I got a timer , the moon lights come on at 8:30am-11:00pm , the rest pop on at 10:30am and off at 9:30 . I love the timers now , I can't understand why I waited , I guess I just thought it was overpriced at the fish store 50$ , I got one at home depot with 8 plugs 4 controlled for constant (its grounded) and a single plug in type digital timer for the moonlight probably got both for 20$ or less.
