My new set up has been up and running a few months.I was told to put the LR and corals, and then add sand.Ive always had sand,I was one of the guys who said ,"It dont look natural BB".Ive bought 80lb of seaflor sp grade sand for the build, its been sitting next to the stand for months.I have been doing WC,sucking the poo and what not out of the bottom of tank.So eazy. For some crazy reason,I LIKE THE LOOK OF THE BARE BOTTOM TANK.So there, i said.Just cant bring myself to put it in.In fact I am going a step further,Im going to yank the leathers out and the very few softies that are in there out.Just thought i would share this with the reef addicts out there.:whistling:

I have ran BB tanks for 6 years. Actually sucked all the sand out of my 140 earlier in the week to go back to BB. I love it...sure it doesn't look as natural, but there is just something about it.

Do what you like best. You can always add it. Without substrate, there is hardly any place for detritus to hide, particularly if you have good water movement.
