120G with probably a 40g sump/refugium. Will power 2 or 3 reactors with a manifold, the current bulkheads for the return are 1".

I'm thinking a mag12, some are saying a mag9.5.

Any suggestions/agreements?

I used a mag 9 then a mag 12 on my 120. I ended up dialing the 12 back.

I would go with the 12 and dial back if needed. Once you have all those reactors going you will be happy you went with the 12.

The new fluval pumps are awesome. I hate mag pumps..too much heat.

You can calculate your head loss and determine how much flow you can get from each optional return pump. The pump options are a little outdated but, it will give you a general idea of each pumps flow rate.

+100

Fluval SP4 for his tank. I have the SP6 and its more than enough for 200g plus a chiller and a manifold. Dead silent and super low energy usage (low heat). Same block as the bubble king skimmer pumps. Can't speak highly enough about this pump.

Mags are noisy and hot. Great for moving water around the garage and whatnot.

I have been running jebao dc 6000 on my 120 for a few months. Only running at half power with split return for fuge, tank, and 1 media reactor. Very happy with it.

+1 I'm running a DC 12000 with a remote sump, 120 DT and a 30 gallon Frag Tank. So far it's been an amazing pump.

When I was deciding on pumps for my 120, I narrowed it down to the Mag 7 and Eheim 1262.

Sounds like you only have a single return - I'm assuming it's a Marineland corner tank?

If it is the return is only rated for a 700 gph flow so you would have to take that into consideration.

I settled on the 1262, which I have throttled back with a ball valve. Still going strong 4+ years in.

The Fluval Sea pumps are getting a lot of attention due to the details that Tony listed above. They use an Askoll motorblock, and as Tony stated, it is the same block that the highly regarded Red Dragon pumps (pre-dc versions) ran. I would highly suggest considering it. I would have gotten it, had I of not gotten a good deal on a Vertex V6 (which has an Askoll motor block as well).

That maybe changing. I was at the local Petsmart and I seen the new filter material for the HOB filters. Guess what the box says. "Made in C.....". Petsmart still has some canister filters that have "Made in Italy" on the outside of the box. I guess Hagen now owns Fluval and AquaClear. It looks like they [Hagen] are outsourcing their product lines to "Made in C....". So much for a quality product coming from Italy.

You asked where the Fluval sp series pumps are manufactured, not the entire Hagen line. Askoll pumps have always been and will always be made in Italy.
