Hey guys the 125 is coming along great. quick question tho What is the cheapest sand i can buy? Is there a huge bag i can buy say from home depot or something? It dont need to be alive i have alive sand

If you want cheap, then buy used sand from someone getting out of the hobby. They might even give it to you for free. Just rinse it really well to get the detritus out. The home depot stuff won't work because it is probably silica sand. You need aragonite coral sand.

Caribsea special grade reef sand (google it) - its not that expensive, about $27 for a 40# bag. many sponsors carry it or will get it for you.

In my humble opinion, sand is something you want to invest in right the first time. Its a major PITA (and dangerous) to switch it out should you decide you (or your inhabitants) do not like it down the road...

X10000...

To be specific, I use it (look at the link below). It is not too fine where it will cloudy your water for days or create a storm with some burrowing fish. Easy to clean. Doesn't trap too much food and etc.. which will cause increase in your Nitrate over time. Not to mention it helps to stabilize your pH. I can go on.

Yes that sand has worked great for me and it has a nice color to it. Just make sure you rinse the heck out of it before you put it in.

No.....they mean not good for little sand sifters and burrowers (gobies, pistol shrimp, etc.). I use this and my 12" engineer goby has had no issues excavating from under all my rock:D

That's what I use.....but note that it isn't LIVE sand. I noticed you mentioned wanting it in your other post. Personally, I would rather just have dry sand and seed it myself.
