I've acquired a large model CPR branded HOB filter. Just the filter, pump and light. It will be on a 50 gallon FO tank.

1. What media should be used in this filter? Should I put live rock rubble, bio-balls or a DSB with Cheato?

2. The first chamber is large enough to have a skimmer put in it. Don't have the exact dims at the moment but looking for suggestions on what skimmer might suit this application.

Off hand, I'd go with chaeto and rubble.

The overall dims are 25"L x 4.5"W x 11.75"T

The first "chamber" is 4"L x 4.5"W x 11.75"T while the second one is 9"L x 4.5"W x 11.75T. The light covers the entire filter with little clearance so I have to come up with something that's not to tall. I may end up having to do a HOB skimmer. Tank is tempered glass so it can't be drilled.

A decent light on it. I think nova makes a 18" t5ho. Throw some 6500k bulbs on it and you will grow the macro like mad. Is there enough room to put skimmer next to it?

It's got a 26w (I think) 6500k fuge light over it. Yeah, I think I can slide it over and get either a CPR Bak-pac or a Remora skimmer next to it.

Nice, I would say the remora. I hear people complaining about microbubbles from the CPR. Almost none from the remora
