thats what i thought.. ive just never seen it in any other color than that ugly brown. When i was at Marine Fish a couple days ago, they had a fish called an Aptasia eater. He said aptasia is the ONLY thing it would eat, and once all of it was gone it would die. It was a really interesting looking fish. I might go back and get it if they still have it. I think it was a sawfish he said.. im not sure

Was that fish at Marine Fish a type of filefish that looked like the Matted Filefish at this link?

well after reading that.. i guess i was lied to. he said it got along fine with other fish and wouldnt eat anything but aptasia. he said if i dont have any aptasia it will eventually die.
figures.

well now i just read from another website that they are very non-aggressive.. guess ill just have to see.

You should get a 30% ARC member discount on the fish per their policy:

I used three of these to wipe out a majano 'nem infestation in my 300 gallon. They can pick on LPS after they are done with the anemones. But they can be caught easily. I pulled mine from the tank in about 25 minutes. I keep them in my refugium and feed them pellets. But they definitely will not die after they get rid of the aiptasia. They are relatives of the trigger fish. Tough little boogers IME.

You probably weren't deliberately lied to, just told misinformation by someone that was misinformed.

Also, there is the rare matted filefish that will not eat aiptasia. Don't expect an overnight obliteration of the aiptasia. Plan on a month or two to see results. Them nipping at LPS/Zoas seems dependent on the personality of the fish and how heavy a feeder you are as well.

I had one that I lost to carpet surfing and am looking for another. It ate pellets and frozen fine. I had some aiptasia in my sump, while my display stayed aiptasia free, so I'm pretty sure it was doing its job.

My ARC discount.. I still haven't used that lol. Don't I have to get a card or something?

Show them either your Paypal receipt or a screenshot of your profile that displays your ARC membership logo and that should suffice.
