H I have had a 55 gallon for abput two years now and i am ready to upgrade.
So I found this work bench and I have reinforced to hold a couple hundred of punds and I want to add a 240 gallon to it and the dimensions I want are 8ft by 2ft by 2 ft. It is going to be a mixed reef. Does anyone know what type of glass and how thick and where i might find someone to cut it and who sells it

Thanks
TJ

Glass suppliers are in the yellow pages. It's a little unclear if the workbench you want to "add" the 240 to is to build it or as a stand for the tank. If it is the latter, you need it to hold a couple THOUSAND pounds, not a couple hundred. I have a 240 the same size, and the glass is 1/2".

Are you going to try to build this tank from scratch, like it sounds? Don't underestimate how much damage 240g of saltwater dumped on the floor can cause.

so for the stand what would y'all recommend because my dad is saying that it would hold a truck but im still not certain on what he says. should i go for less gallons like 150

It needs to be nice and flat so the tank has a level surface, and figure on 10 pounds per gallon for the tank and its contents. Plenty of people build stands, but they need to be strong and built right. Chris at Fish Scales builds custom glass tanks, you might send him a PM for a quote. You may find that you are better off money-wise to buy a tank than try to build one.

Yeah, and I'd be careful of that work bench as a stand, too. I'd hate to see an entire tank and your house get destroyed for trying to save some money. If you can't afford a worthy stand, you may want to consider waiting to begin.

ok then do y'all have any recomendations if i wanted to do something cheaper what size i could go with and stil have a couple of tangs and coral in

I personally think like Ares said, a 90 or a 120 is nice... especially a 120. That extra 6" depth looks nice and the equipment requirements of the two is very similar. You are making a good move IMO by reconsidering on the size... have you considered what it costs to put lighting over an 8' reef tank? It ain't cheap!

yeah i tend to think really big thanks, now if anybody is getting rid of anything haha

How about a 90g: tank, stand, pump, sump, and lighting.
