Okay, so I am planing to move to the west coast in a few months. I have a 36 gal bow front. I don't have any expensive corals or fish, just a mantis shrimp and I finally have my tank the way I want it. Should I sell my live stock or should I attempt to bring them with me.

i'd sell it and start over when u get to cali. since it's a simple setup.

I would keep all the equipment and sell the live stock. Than when you get settled set it back up.

you could keep the LR this would make it faster on setup. just use an inverter and a pump and heater fill tub with tank water, cover and go

I would sell everything and start over. Although, it won't take up much room there is always the possibility of it getting damaged. California is major move and unless you are really attached to your tank I would at least try to sell....if you can't get the right price then that another issue. Just keep essential non-perishable items.

If you're like me.....when I moved from Texas I ended either selling or giving away a lot of stuff because it wouldn't fit in the UHaul.

would hate to take this apart

While I concur with the others, there's one other option... albeit a more costly one.

Arrange with someone to keep your livestock while you move (I'm not volunteering LOL, just putting it out there)... move your tank - ditch the sand, maybe take the rock with you that's easy enough to transport even if there's some delay.

When you get where you're going, set it back up and cycle it, and then have the person here, ship your livestock just as livestock is shipped every day - by air freight. Probably cost you $100-200 to do that. There is risk of some mortality - but if it's done right and your tank is ready when it's shipped, you could manage to pull it off.

Practically speaking though - selling off what you have here and starting again may be a more viable option.

Tank looks nice. But don't u plan on site seeing/partying the first few months in cali? Would be a pain to have to worry about your tank.

I agree that selling and starting over would be the easiest thing to do. On the plus side, you have a fresh clean canvas to work on. :-) On the negative side, you may find things more expensive if CA.

My .02... look what it costs to replace certain things. For example, it may be possible sell everything here for say $100 only to move there and replace everything for $125. However, I don't think that is the case- I've heard everything costs more out that way. Research carefully. See if there are any local clubs as well- though it hard to find one as awesome as this one ; D
After lugging live rock from Florida to Georgia- then from Jonesboro to Marietta to Athens to NGa- yeah, it is easier to by new rock.
Keep the tank, lights and pumps though unless you are attached to any livestock/rocks
