Anybody got any clues as to what this white film stuff is on the Leibrock? My aquarium has been running for about two months now and this has all of the sudden popped up. I tried using a turkey baster to get it off but it was on there pretty solid.

There is coraline algae on the rock. The rock had some Cora line algae on it when I bought it from and established tank several months ago.

When our params are out off whack mainly. In your case, it came from another established tank and moving it is probably doing it. Not your fault so don't worry. The parts that bleached will not come back but the rest will spread if everything is stable in your tank.

I highly doubt this is the case but if live coralline alage is exposed to air and light it kills it. At that time it also turns white.

Ex:
If coralline is on the back wall of your tank and you do a large water change with your lights on the coraline will die and turn white....
But if your just now seeing it, it's not from 2 months ago.

Some types of new Coraline is white, light green... Maybe it's new :)

Overall I'm getting the impression that it does not seem to be a serious situation. I checked my parameters yesterday and everything is stable.

I concur that it's coralline that has died off, probably due to air exposure. It can take a bit of exposure but it does have a tendency to die off - like Camellia suggested, lots of tank that get regular water changes have a "white band" of coralline around the top where the tank is drained down.

It will grow back over in time with new coralline, so I wouldn't sweat it.

The live rock that I bought from other folks was only exposed to air for a maximum of 1 to 2 hours several months ago when I was setting up my tank. I bought the rock prior to setting up the tank so It was stored in a bin with salt water and a pump to keep the water moving. Even when I do water changes every two weeks I never drain it to where the rock is exposed. Either way it sounds like no big deal.

The trip is likely what did it, just took some time to become evident.

And you are correct - it's no big deal.
