I started with the Carib-Sea Life Rock, which is painted purple before you even start. Tank is going thru the ugly phase, diatoms are the main source of ugly. Some parts of the rocks are turning a sort of beige/green color, not the color of diatoms. Its more encrusting looking, almost like beige/green coraline. What is this stuff?

I tried to take a pic, but it doesn't look right under the blues. Going to turn on the whites and see what I can do.

It's gotta be some kind of algae, the trochus snails don't seem to eat it, it's still there after they make a pass....

Some coralline algae are green. That's what it looks like to me. Usually the purple and red dominate.

Looks like normal green algae. It will go away as the tank matures. Did you use fresh dry rock or did you cure the rock?

Not cured. This is the stuff

I also have that light brown to green algae you speak of, and it doesn’t show where light doesn’t touch. I presume it’s just green hair algae. My astreas stay in it, but trochus not interested or little to no impact.
