Pretty sure I have whelks in my tank. And yes, I know that nassarius' are whelks too. Been watching what I thought was one that always hung out in the rocks or glass. Never saw him come up from the sand like the nassarius would. Saw it again last night really close to a nerite. Did some research and was fairly certain it was one of the predatory whelks so I removed and figured I just found out why so many of my snails die.

Then this morning I see another two and I caught one red handed. Looked like it was eating a nerite at the water line at the top of the aquarium and sure enough about 15 minutes later I see him drop the empty nerite shell. So I fished him and his twin out. Hopefully they didn't have a bunch of babies that are hiding in the rocks!

So, can these things kill anything besides snails?

They are carnivorous so anything with meat is fair game I suspect. My sister found one eating a calm she had.
