Wow what a weekend.....can't wait to go back to work...LOL.

Wife crashed PC and mother broke wrist Friday. Smart phone dies Saturday morning and then last night I go downstairs to this.

Long story short, CA dosing pump stuck on and dumped about 3 days worth in. Salinity, Alk, and pH somehow stayed in safe ranges and no harm, no foul other than the mess of precipitated CA that snowed my entire tank. Corals and fish never seemed to mind. I escaped a true diaster and didn't even have internet to get on ARC and talk it out with the group.

I didn't have much water made up so I changed what I could, skimmed like mad, and put polyfil in sump, overflows, and a reactor. Cleared after a couple hours. Time to program in a float switch to kill my dosers as a backup.

Thanks to Bud for moral support and being the unlucky joker who's number was programmed in my old cell phone:up:

I can't wait to test my CA levels today:)

As a small consolation to myself during this event, I did get a chuckle at my fish (all of which are much like dogs and "tame") that would come to the glass when I approached to tank as if to say "I can't see a dang thing in here"

Jon, glad to hear everyone is ok for now and hopefully it will stay that way. What's the tank look like now, all clear?

Yep, tank crystal clear other than the sediment left behind. Fish and coral all 100%. Looks to have ticked my shrooms and ricordias off, but SPS/LPS/zoas/palys all normal.

And thanks again Bud.

NEVER HESITATE AGAIN!!

I've got 55 gals of RO water sitting at all times in my holding tank.. just call me and then come get it...

I usually have fresh RO and SW on hand as well. You are welcome to it as well when/if you need it.

Thanks guys. Once I realized it was purely CA precipitating and all parameters were fine I wasn't too worried. Push come to shove I could have mixed some SW up real quick I just hate using it before 24 hours. Obviously had it been Alk instead of CA I would have been in a major search for lots of mixed SW:D

I guess if anything I learned a valuable lesson not to freak out no matter how the tank appears. It looked disasterous but in the end turned out to be no biggy (fingers still crossed). I literally walked downstairs, saw the state of the tank, and called for my wife to bring me a couple beers and a phone:)

DANG!
Glad it all worked out John.

Hey... I just sent you a PM Pic of the clam. He's doing great!

Well.....as much as I would like to blame technology, in the end it appears to have been completely my fault. Spent the evening going through the system and my float switch that enables my dosers and ATO had alot of scaling, and the float switch that should have diabled my ATO and dosers in case the level gets too high had alot of salt creep on it from me not even checking it in over a year. Perfect storm of both switches hanging up. Bad reefer....bad:D
