Looking to switch from halide to leds in a 60 gallon 24 inch deep tank. I want to house mostly lps but some sps also. thanks

You wait until someone on here sells theirs. Watch the classifieds, put up a post in WTB.

so you're saying they are diy leds a member has put together. Probably from china huh? Doesnt sound so appealing anymore.

Yes they are from China however the "Member" is no longer a member. I love mine though.

I've heard some people have trouble with them but every tank I have seen with them I have thought they looked awesome. I would put them over my tank

China made leds nowadays still use descent bulbs themselves... however the only issues I have heard from people that bought them was the longevity on the drivers and other equipment used... But I would say if you got 3-5 years out of them vs paying the big bucks for lets say 7-10 year system you still made out great as the energy consumption is far less, and I know from experience on my tanks MH last about 8 months before they need replaced... I am doing some DIY just so I can have them they way I want vs buying some that are made universal... and I spend around 250-280 replacing bulbs and use probably more than that cooling the tank over 8 months... so I say as long as it is a decent led bulb go for it as you still come out in the long run....

Long story short, a member who frequented China regularly organized several group buys for the ARC members for these lights which are made in China. He oversaw the builds and picked them up, etc etc.

The problem came when people needed support and couldn't get it. It went downhill from there.

All that said, I have 2 sets of the lights and they work just fine for me. However, getting new lights that are the same is not going to happen unless you're interested in going to China to figure it out, or finding someone in the US that imports them.

http://Alibaba.com">http://Alibaba.com</a> "Buyer Beware!!!"

If you do take the chance stick with one that uses 3w CREE or 3w bridgelux chips.
Just remember if you order a cheap chinese light you will get a cheap chinese light.

Lost of us had problems with them. If you have a problem there is no warrantee on them at that point you are left out to dry. on RC site there is a big post about the different company's that sell the Chinese LEDs some are great places to buy from some are not. I bought 13 of the MM units and had problems with several of them. I found a place in china that sells all the parts to fix them with I fixed mine and sold all of them but 1. I lost big money on them. So buyer beware of the MM led lights. If you got a good set from Rob they are good. but many were bad. Rob was selling them for $235.00 each, you can now find them for about $125.00 new right from China. I replaced mine with more from China and love them. They have a sun rise to sun set program in them. and a lunar moon cycle also. And great customer service from them.

I know how many Robin has sold and for the amount he has sold and to the amount that have had issues is like 100:1. I have 7 of them and would buy more. I haven't had issues with any that I've had. I can tell you the ones that are electronically dimmable were the ones with issues. Those I do not have. I have the manually dimmable ones and had some of them now for 2yrs with like I said no issues. The color and growth I get from them I couldn't be more pleased. Anyone who has seen my tank will tell you the same.

I think your good to bad ratio is off. I had problems with 2/3 of mine... One was fixed by rob and the other has been sitting in a cabinet for 6 months... Still waiting on a email reply from rob

These are basically the same units that where MM
The difference is that these have a warranty and these have greens and reds also.

Sorry for your luck. May want to hit him up again.

I purchased one from the member...still have it and it still works (over a year) even though I'm not currently using it. I also coordinated a group buy on eShines, also made in China. I don't believe anybody has had a single issue with those. Then I bought some more from China through AliExpress (these were dimmable) and all of those were good. Maybe I'm just lucky. Bottom line...I love my LEDs (and I was a MH fan) and will buy more.

I still have mine going over a year only complaint I have is the UV chips in mine are a burnt color on the led bulb and they are not as bright as the rest thinking bout pulling these out and installing regular whites back in. If I recall these are bridgelux 3w leds in the mm units

The UV never were a bright as the others but that doesn't mean they are not emmitting the proper UV spectrum.
