Which Pump for My Skimmer?

I have what I've been told is a Reef Dynamics ins-100 that does not have the output tube or a pump. I figure that a Home Depot trip will take care of the output tube issue, but I'm not sure what pump to go with. The website below says that it uses a Modified EcoPlus 633 Water Pump.

I know I need a pump with a Pin-Wheel impeller...I want something very quiet, and it would be nice to not break the bank.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated

Sedra 3500 is what they use also.

I'd entertain the Bubble Blaster HY-1000 as a pump decision. Much more efficient, however it does pull more air, so you may have to play around with the depth of the skimmer body in the water to also fine tune the water level.

The Bubble Blaster is about twice as expensive as the Sedra, and impeller replacements are about twice as much too. I think I'll go with the Sedra and hope for the best for now. If it isn't up to par...I'll spend a bit more on something else at a later date. The Bubble Blaster is pretty nice looking though.

Just wanted to throw this out to you that the Sedra pumps have a ceramic shaft that breaks easily, pick up a spare or two... or someone put up a thread about using a carbon fiber shaft that they picked up at a hobby store (Hobbytown?).

I have a euro-reef that uses two sedra 5000 pumps. Never a problem and skims like mad.

I noticed a couple people complaining about the impeller breaking, but almost all of the reviews on MarineDepot are 5 stars. I'm definitely going the Sedra route, thanks for the warning though Sewer Urchin. Good to know

And The Tick is amazing...glad to see someone else thinks so too :D

OK...so I can't seem to find a picture of the exact model online. I was told its the ins100 by reef dynamics, and the symbol on the skimmer cup lid confirms that, but the picture on the website is not the model I have. http://www.reefdynamics.com/INS100-Protein-Skimmer-p/ins100.htm">http://www.reefdynamics.com/INS100-Protein-Skimmer-p/ins100.htm</a>
Mine is an older model, which very well may be my issue.

The reason I'm trying to find a good picture is to find out what kind of output tube I need to construct. It may very well be that the picture on this website is what I need to mimic, but I want to make 100% sure before I start cutting PVC. There are so many variations in design from one skimmer to the next and I obviously would like to build the proper type of output for my skimmer. If anyone has any input it would be very much appreciated.

A lil research into the skimmer output style and function of this model, finding my Sedra 3500 in a box on the bottom of the pile :D, $8 at Home Depot on PVC fittings, about an hour of whittling and sanding PVC in order to get the wedge pipe to fit properly, and I am skimming. :yay:

Thanks for the pump advice guys
