Just got a JBJ 1/3 chiller, and the instruction manual doesn't mention which pump to get. I'm thinking about getting a maxijet 1200. Would this be ok?

It depend on how far away is your chiller but I don't think that pump will give enough flow
Is it 3/4" barb ?

Maybe a pump with 3/4" barb

My $.02, don't go maxi jet...

Remember, the water may twist and turn 15 feet inside the chiller coils... Go with a better pump.

you might consider something that give you more flow and head pressure than you need and be able to dial it back.
the max flow rate on the jbj 1/3 hp chiller is 480gph.

NO! to the maxijet. It simply can't push enough head to get the water through properly. There are several factors to consider. Distance is just one, inlet/outlet size is another. There's probably another 6-8 feet inside the chiller that the water has to be pushed. Every chiller that I've ever owned has a flow recommendation in gph to give you optimum cooling capacity. This one should be no different. I suspect your probably looking at a Mag 5 or something similar.

If you want 480 gph actual flow, you might look at something with 1000 gph or so nominal output. I like my Jebao DC pump. They seem more efficient than the Mag pumps. Hate to add 100 watts of heating just to run your chiller...

Good point. The problem will be whether or not the pump can be submerged to feed the chiller or if it's external.
