first off I have a sealife systems skimmer sitting around that came from a 90, it has a rio 600 pump on it, anyone know anything about it?

how are the <span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">Tunze DOC 9005 Protein Skimmer, or the coralife 65 skimmer, or the octopus in sump skimmers?</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 13px;"></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">the tank will be a 65 gal tank with a 29 gal sump...</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">if theres another skimmer out there that you would use, please inform me.</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">thanks</span></span>

I had the Coralife SS 65 on my tank to start with. It worked OK (especially for the price!). I upgraded to an ASM G1 a while back and that produces a whole different universe of skimmate than the SS 65 did (but at a fairly higher cost).

I have heard great things about the Octopus skimmers, but have no personal experience with them.

love my octopus 160. It pulls a lot out and its easy to adjust and empty the container.. a big plus for me.

any octopus skimmer, or ASM - they are relatively inexpensive and work great

I had both the ASM and Octopus. I like the octopus because it was easier to clean. However like they say, they are both best bang for the bucks.

I have the new line of Octopus Skimmer being delivered Monday from CoralVue, they are soposed to be more powerful but IMO step up to the MRC skimmer and you will not be dissapointed.

I think I am going to get the octopus, but probably not soon.
chris I may be in there from time to time but I may have to put my whole tank on wait for a couple months.... and tear down the 29.
ah I hate family issues.

They over-rate their skimmers. They work "ok" but suggest a much smaller tank for them than they do (ie I had a model 75 on my 37 and it did the job just fine, but wouldn't go bigger tank on that model)... they are on the lower end of the price food chain - but are a bit better than most comparably priced skimmers, if you put 'em on a suitably smaller tank.

No direct experience with Octopus.

I don't sell the Coralife, but we've had to contend with some of them (for clients) - I'm not a fan, but again for price point people seem to buy them.

I'm a Euroreef fan. Set it, forget it (except don't forget to clean it - they pull some ungodly funk.)

I have used a Coralife SuperSkimmer 220 on my large system (+200g). I bought it used and for the price it did a decent job but was undersized . I recently upgraded to a brand new Reef Octopus Extreme 250. I am tremendously happy with it. :D

I have a few octopus skimmers on my tanks, I have considered upgrading to the MRC's, but the octo's work so good I'm in no hurry.
