Does anyone know what the white thing is below this mushroom. I thought it was a sponge but now it’s disintegrating as if whatever life cycle was happening is over. It’s in my tank so there’s not much I can do but I’d still like to know what it is. Maybe it’s a worm or something that I’ll need to trap?

I think its a sponge - maybe clathrina?
I concur, it's a white sponge. They can smother things but they tend to be slow growers and I've never had it happen in my tanks. Super easy to remove (toothbrush) if you'd like to or it doesn't look good. If you were concerned that it's potentially something bad, it certainly isn't. The only time I remove them is when they're starting to crowd out something else in my tank that looks better.
