I have a 125g tank with sand, rock and 6 fish. I have read articles on the net on it but not sure how fast to lower the salinity to 1.013. If you have done it I would appreciate the input! Thanks, Holley

I would just do a 10 gallon water change with fresh water instead of salt weekly until u have the desired salinity. But I assume this is fish only?

No experience here Holley but I have read threads where others have done this. If I remember correctly, they tried to not lower more than a couple points a day. Seems like they did it over the course of 4 or 5 days. Same thing for raising it back up when finished.

I have read you need to get it down to 1.009

I did it years ago and it worked fine and i did it again 2 months ago my snowflake clown got ich from a petco royal gramma.

The link is a how to guide if you need one good luck though.

why are you doing it?
<p style="text-align:left">it will stress your fish kind of like fw dips
go slow no more then .003 per 3 hours holding it low will be the problem lots of checking sg
to raise it just cut off your ato and let it bring its self back to normal levels over a few days

Thanks for the info! My 2+ yr old tang got stressed and broke out in something. It looks more like Marine Velvet than Ick-but I'm not sure!

use this its invert safe and wont stress your fish you can git it at petsmart

Your house will smell like mint for a while and it wont work Hyposalinity is cheap safe if done right and your best option. I would do it in a smaller tank and not in the main tank though.

Do some research.
If they are covered and have trouble breathing then put them in a QT tank with copper ich treatment use a test kit though. But if you caught it early just do hyposalinity. Back in 2005 i tried this in my 120 gallon for months i used every thing i could get and in the end most of my fish died i was out over $200 for all the reef safe treatments so i looked up hyposalinity and treated what was left of my fish for 2 months and i never had it again in that tank since i didnt add new fish to the tank with out leaving them in QT for a month.

This year a few months ago i got a petco royal gramma and got my tank sick i didnt care it was a new tank and i just took them all out put them in a qt tank and did hyposalinity for 1 month and 1 month to check to see if it came back they are now in my main tank again and fine the royal gramma died from fungus though and may he rot in hell muahaha.

Good luck on any thing you do though. Just dont be scared away by hyposalinity its not hard to do just read a step by step and follow directions.

Melafix is junk, IMO. Hopefully you have your package from me later today.
