I'm not sure who the perp is but I feel like I am renting snails. I'll provide a list of suspects.

Tomini Tang
Rusty Angel
Flame hawk
Purple Pseudochromis
Diamond Goby (really doubt it he is preoccupied redecorating the tank)
Green Chromis (5 of them)

Any guesses?

I witnessed 3 hermits killing an overturned astrea snail the other day. They're little murderers. The messed up part is I have a pile of shells of various sizes for them in the tank

Yes I do have crabs! After I posted this I flipped by sole surviving turbo snail over and broke of two hermits fighting at the other end. Like JDavid I have a ton of shells in the tank, I guess they kill for the thrill.

I am throwing my hat in for the hermits too. They will kill snails as they grow to get bigger shells. You can have a whole pile of shells available but they may be too small for what the crab is looking for and they then kill a live snail. Some of my hermits I have are only about a year old and already toting around shells from giant tonga nassarius snails. Big jokers are going for a trade in at lfs. They can easily topple frags.

hermit crabs will kill snails for there shells and for food i wohld spot feed them 1 time a week or be prepaired to add lots of snals if you have hermits its not the hawkfish as they would eat them first

Thanks falos, at this point I may have a bit of a crisis, I have a ton of hermit crabs!

Astrea snails? Don't rule out the hawk flipping them over and the crabs finishing them off.

turbos are cold water animals, they're only temporary anyway to get rid of a problem. be careful on the turbos dying it's a small tank phosphates will go through the roof.
