I am interested in your experiences with a deep sand bed. I am in the process of setting up a tank and am considering using one. Feedback, pros and cons, would be appreciated. I have read alot on them but would like to hear some first hand experiences. Please include how long yours has been or was up and running.

some reading on it:

I have always had deep sand beds, but the reason for that is I love wrasse and they need somewhere to sleep.

I'm a big fan of DSBs.

I feel it adds stability to a system.

I do not currently run a DSB, as my only tank at the present is a 6g Fluval Edge, I've ran DSBs for many, many years.

I've never personally experienced a DSB that expelled harmful gases as has been reported by some members, and believe that claim to be as common as bigfoot.

Light vacuuming while doing a water change is all that's required as far as maintenance, and it provides a huge amount of growing area for micro fauna and flora.

I used to run them, but have been experimenting with methods that allow you to gain the benifits with out as many con's. Too soon to tell...
