I have been reading some and am second guessing my use of GAC. Who runs it 24/7?

Do you add any additional trace elements beyond your kalk and cal reactor?

I'm also running ROX .08 24x7. Change it every few weeks. Dosing cal,alk and mag

Nothing until the AcroPower gets here! And outside of a 3 month trial of the useless Fauna Marin Color Elements, never any traces other than the Ca reactor and kalk. Fish food and fish poop only.

ROX .08 in a reactor 24/7. small amount & I change it weekly. no trace added.

I did run it 24/7 until a couple weeks ago. (I buy it in mega bulk so I didn't care about how liberally I used it.) I'm going to back off a bit. It doesn't discriminate against what it pulls out of the water as we all know. So, it's pulling out all the trace that we work so hard to add by one means or another. I will try running one week a month. When I don't run it the water clarity isn't as good and my sump room starts smelling "fishy" but I'm curious to see how the corals respond now that I'm adding amino's and other trace.

Might I ask where you buy this? Bulk reef supply? Or bulk as in 50lb bags?

Right after I started running black diamond I had crazy algae growth (GHA). Swapped the carbon out for po4x4 media and it's almost all gone so I do suspect it was an issue with phosphates.

If I don't run a little my water doesn't look as clear and it gets a little fishy smell .
I dose red sea coral color ABCD .

ive never experienced this and ive run black diamond for over 2 years.i do run po4x4 also

I should also mention that this is on my 10g qt/bedside nano. (It's a 10 gallon tank with a kessil a150, phosban reactor 150, and a powerhead that doubles as a coral qt tank)

The relative amount of carbon to water volume and the fact that I wasn't running anything to remove phosphate could account for our different experiences. Or it is possible that the carbon leaching phosphate wasn't the issue at all. But I too off both my tanks from the same water, feed the same food, and I doubt that the kessil a150 is better at growing algae than the 400w radium.. So I'm blaming the carbon.

What is your experience with the po4x4? Do you have the version with the super tiny beads?? How do you run it, in a reactor??

It seems to work pretty well but I have no way to test my phosphates right now

i like it.i really like no rinsing.yes, tiny beads.made by reef interests.i use 1 cup for 150 total volume and change out every two weeks running in a phosban 150.im sure it could go a little longer as po4 doesnt rise in the two week period but that was my gfo and carbon schedule anyway so i just stick to it.

I like it too but I would recommend that anyone who tries it run the output into a sock OR do like I did and stuff the top of the reactor with polyfil.

Barry_keith gave me about 1/5 of a bag to hold me over while I wait for GFO to arrive. I might get another bag of it though because it does seem to work well and the company claims that it removes more phosphate and doesn't leach iron into the system like GFO

looks like you have too much flow running through it.treat it like gfo with a very gentle tumble just on the surface.it should stay at the bottom of reactor and just percolate

That's how it is, but I either had some floaters or blasted through the sponge when I was initially adjusting the valve

Edit: Either way, without that floss I'd have a bunch of media in my tank

Also what you see below the sponge is stuck to the side of the reactor. It's not free in the water.

I use it 24/7.

I run a large calcium reactor & Nilsen reactor. I don't dose anything as the reactors will provide everything I'd need, including trace elements.
