I saw these on e-bay ages ago. Pre-cut baffle kits and bulkheads for DIY sumps.

I'm not really looking to order off of ebay, but I'm looking to see if any retailer online, or if anyone on here makes kits.

I am picking up a 40g breeder and want to set it up as a sump/fuge. I want to make sure the baffles are setup for the proper flow, as well as making it as silent as possible. I'm going to have this right next to the living room in a smaller townhouse.

Buy Somme acrylic from HD or Lowes, measure the tank, bring the acrylic and measurements out to my place and we will son it thru the table saw. Piece of cake.

People say don’t use acrylic (lexan) as the silicone wont bond. I say they are whack jobs. Here are the reasons. Acrylic (lexan) will bow when it has the weight of water on onside. This causes it to move and put side pulling pressure on the silicone which causes it to pull out of it.

You will need to double up the lexan for when 1/4" spans 18" it will bow or deflect when you only have water on one side. This is normally only a problem on the return pump area as the water is normally higher on the sump side. Just sandwich you 2 pcs of 1/4 with some silicone and your good. Make sure you use plenty of silicone on both sides say ½” wide, it allows more silicone on the acrylic. and the panels are cut 1/8” short (left to right) so when it swell’s it wont crack your tank.

I have some ¼ in my sump and it does have a small bow but it is 18” wide.

As for silicone don’t just get any kind!!

People will tell you that you can use this and that for silicone from all the stores but make sure it’s only 100% silicone and no mold inhibiters in it. I use only FDA approved silicone. I was on a tank manufacture website and I can’t remember which one but they said they use Momentive Rtv108. When I did a search for this I found out the McMaster Carr has it which is only 15min from me. I also get the cartridge that goes in a caulking gun. It’s much cheaper for the amount you get verses the squeeze tube. Hd does sell a tiny squeeze tube that has a fish on it and says it fish safe but you need like 3 of them.

I have used a silicone adheasive when bonding acrylic to glass with great results, not for sumps but for several AIO tanks. I have also had good luck using just the regular silicone aquarium sealant on smaller applications.

Yep most measure themselves and get pieces of glass cut for them

Has there been a thread on here with 40g Breeder sump layout ideas?

I'm looking to get a layout together so I can plan what I need to cut. I'd like to kind of knock off the Proflex Model 4 design. I like the intake and sock design. I'm looking to run as SILENT as I can.

Whatever you decide, Canton Glass, on Hwy 140 will cut whatever you want. They cut four baffles for me for $15 that included rounded edges.

That's a great price, do you know if they can make curved or rounded cuts? Looking for a place to cut a glass cover fro a cube wth a curved front.

To be as silent as it can would be a bean animal overflow

Edit: To be as silent as it can would be a bean animal overflow

There's a seller on eBay who have pre cut kit baffles, I saw kit for 10 and 30 gallons but didn't look for 40 gallons

Sorry. Didn't see your first post on my phone.
But don't take the hassle on building it or knocking off, just buy my proflex model 4 hehehe, :)
