There's some great video that goes along with this story...was on Good Morning America this morning.

Do you guys really want your corals spawning in your tank? Why not just dump a bucket of food in instead? Think of all that bioload added all at once.

Here's part of the video

Here's a question for you all. What spectrum do you think the moons light really is? (Hint it's not blue) :)

Same as the Sun as it is just a reflection of it. (had to google it :shades: )

LOL. Yep. that's why when people say their blue leds are moon spectrum I giggle a little.

The moon also has 0 Lux in pheonix AZ anyway.

Sure I can see that. It is just a reflection of Sunlight so it would have a UV spectrum.

It is very difficult if not impossible to reproduce the moon spectrum as it varies continually. It isn't the suns spectrum which is actually very stable. The area where the moonlight is most stable is actually in the blue spectrum so there is a tiny bit of truth in what some people say about blue LEDs. As the moonight frequency and the spectrum changes likely no lighting system can reproduce it accurately nor will creatures that have evolved over millions of years (or ones that god created that way) respond to simulated moonlight in the same way as they do the real stuff. For all we know they are responding to tidal patterns caused by the moon.

That said, you never know what it might do as I doubt many have ever tried experiments in controlled groups. Could be a fun experiment.

I am going to put a moon light in my bedroom. Sorry I could not resist. :)
