Wicked Apex issue

My entire system 5+ EB8s, VDM, WXM, PM1 and PM2 failed today.
The head unit and web access worked fine - the thing that threw me off was a power consumption of exactly 0 on all EBs.
Quick check revealed blinking green (lost connection to head unit) on all modules.
I changed cables, changed outlets - nothing.

As soon as I disconnected the display (!!!) the system sprung to life, once I plug it back in, same issue.

I thought the display was just that a DISPLAY, apparently there is more in that box.

That's a little troubling since I have an Apex Lite due to arrive today. From what I've researched, you can set up and run the entire system without the display. Have you (or are you planning to) called Neptune customer service?

Might be a short in the display. Did you try a different cable to the display?

The display is a module just like any of the EB8s. It can all be managed through the browser. Worst case scenario, I have a display at SEA

The display isn't required, but it CAN cause problems for the entire system. (actually, I take that back, you do need it for initial IP address config and password)

Are you sure? Neptune sells the Lite saying otherwise.

I'm not 100% sure. I was one of the first 50 shipped, and at that point it was required for initial setup, but nothing else. The software has evolved quite a bit since then.

i setup mine up last week, i had to use the display to give/get the ip. my router is 192.168.1.1 but my display read 192.168.1.105. im not very computer savy at all, but i dont know how else i would have found that ip without the display, bc without it i couldnt link apex to computer. the display also tells you the admin name and password in case you dont know it

Hey Robin,

If you fail to get the issue resolved fast enough for you, I' got a back up AC3 and DC8 that you could use. Might be a pain to reroute stuff, but it could allow you to control things and buy some time until you could solve the issue the way you want. Let me know if you need it...

There's a program on the CD that finds every Apex on your network and tells you the IP address. I didn't use my display for anything ... other than looking to see what the temp is :)

That is like saying "I forgot to put air in those tires when I put them on the rim". hehehehehe

not exactly, as those tires wouldnt even get you out of the shop bay. the apex is 100% operational. i got the wxm module and everything going as it should without the cd. but maybe i should put the cd and take a look at whats on it. it needs to have a programming crash course 101 on it

I had a similar problem when I was running 2 displays. I beleive the problem is your Aquabus ID table. The system thinks the display should be at an Aquabus address that conflicts with one of the other modules or it might be that the Aquabus table has been corrupted.

Step 1 - Backup your configuration
Step 2 - Disconnect the offending display module (if it isn't already)
Step 3 - From the web interface, delete the 1 or 2 display modules from the list on the Configuration/Module Setup page
Step 4 - Wait a couple minutes or re-boot your system and reconnect the display

If this doesn't work for you, you may need to Initialize Aquabus Devices from the Config/Misc Setup screen under initialize memory. DO NOT do this unless you have time to reconfigure your entire system if it doesn't work properly. I have heard of people having problems with the system assigning different Aquabus IDs to the EB8s which messes up programming. If that happens, you need to reprogram your EB8 ports unless you know the Telnet command to re-assign Aquabus IDs.

Nope, you don't need the display to set the ip address. I got a apex system which I've never plugged in a display. I set up everything, including the ip address, through the web interface.

You need a gaming adapter to connect the apex wirelessly, correct? I'm having a devil of a time accessing that from my network!

The easiest way is to use an apple airport extreme router & an airport express expansion. Not cheap, but it's flawless and deadnuts simple to setup.

I have a Linksys G Wireless adapter, but I can't get it connected to my network for some reason. I've plugged it straight into the router and also tried straight into the laptop. The stupid CD it came with is all .exe!!

To connect the Apex wirelessly, you need a wireless bridge (AKA gaming adapter). This is what I got, and it was 100% plug and play: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007CO5DZ4/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i02">Amazon.com: NETGEAR WNCE2001 Universal WiFi Internet Adapter - Manufacturer Refurbished: Computers & Accessories</a>

The Apex plugs into this instead of plugging into an ethernet jack.
