I have this issue with water getting under my sump and causing dampness...bugs...ants. Is there any way of getting it off the floor 1" to aid in ventilation? Bubba

If it were me I would just use maybe 4 small blocks of wood for each corner to lift the sump up. I wouldn't think it would get that wet to where it would ruin the blocks of wood!

I am from Pennsylvania, and Georgia is different. In Pa we have ants attracted to water. I have had the sump for two years it is acrylic. It sits on my breakfast room floor which is white ceramic tile. I can see through the sump (because I turkey baste clean it every week) and I see dampness and that bothers me. Oh ya, over flows is the other thing. Can't get that water box trick to work every time I do a w/c. Jason Austin (tank of the Month) is building me a new sump this weekend. Also got GFO and a reactor, and a sro 2000. That is why he is building me a new sump...get this.....I told my husband that I would be saving $$$$$$$$$$ on the skimmer. Bubba

First, thank you for your service. And for the egg crate info. See if I can find some PVC blocks and run a small fan under them. Do you know how weird I can get about water issues? Wrong Hobby, shoud raise venus fly traps!! Bubba

So is it an acrylic tank with a rim? Sounds like the tank water and floor are different temps there is some condensation building up.

NO RIM, but the new 20 long does have a rim, or I should say will have a rim. Do you know where I can find directions to DIY sump? Thanks, Bubba

Regarding your eggcrate idea-

I started to think around this question, maybe do a calculation. Instead, I got my carcass onto some HD eggcrate and it held up just fine.

Now your 20 gal sump would only weigh 166 lbs (plus the tank, rock, etc.) even if slap full. Standing on two feet like I did is a greater force (more lb/square ft) than your tank would be, so I think you are good to go.

The eggcrate would be a great solution to your problem (assuming your floor is flat, of course). Why? It's open, and would provide uniform support over the bottom of the tank. Blocks, etc. could concentrate the force only at the contact surfaces of the blocks. That would lead to uneven weight distribution and could result in what is known as shear. Both glass and acrylic don't like shear. They often break when exposed to too much of it. I mention both materials because I don't know what your sump is made of. Good luck. -JMHO

Thanks to both of you. And Smoothie, with Jason's schedule things are beginingg to sound a little hectic. Could be I will be calling you.
Yellow tang lost the white spots on the first night in the qt. Been doing my water changes, upped the temperature. feeding him good and vitamins. Adding Coppersafe to water when doing my two changes a day. Sure appreciate you all. Bubba

Sure call me anytime. PM me if ya need anything. I will be at the house finally in the morning. No more golfers for me
