I was considering a harlequin to clean up my asterina but understand that one would obliterate my population within a few days. I found the idea to buy chocolate chip stars every few weeks to feed it. I wondered if I could buy the chocolate chip, cut it up and freeze it so I could take out smaller pieces once a week or so. Has anyone tried that?

I have had several harlequin shrimp, I dought they would eat frozen starfish  usually they stay right there with the starfish and pull little pieces from it as they need them. The starfish stays alive through the whole process. It can take a couple of weeks to eat one (a chocolate chip for example). Once the starfish starts to die it’s just a matter of hours before it goes back to the sea. They waste very little. They do a lot better in pairs.

So as the chocolate is getting chipped, it doesn't foul the water? What are you referring to with in a matter of hours it goes back to the sea?
