I found a online company called salty critter that is selling the Reef Octopus Extreme 200 for about $285 new.

Its a heck of a lot cheaper than some major online vendors like aquacave selling for $340.

My question is -- the stand I have gives me 24.5" of height clearance. The skimmer description says it has a height of 22.75".

Seeing that this will be sitting in a sump, I can take away about 1" for the bottom glass, etc...

This sounds like its going to fit (very close) -- but I'm wondering if that height clearance would give me enough room to remove the skimmer collection cup.

Does anyone have one of these skimmers? Does the 22.75" height include the room/clearance needed to get the collection cup off, or is that with the cup sitting on the skimmer as pictured?

Woops. Wrong section. If a site MOD could move this to the reefing section, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry!

It should fit.

There are sponsors that will offer that same price.

Just ask NotiReefer.

You sure that screen name is correct? Trying to send NotiReefer a PM I got back:

I bought mine from Chris (Fish Scales) he ordered it for me and honored the online price.

phoenix,

What's the water level in your skimmer section? That will make a big difference. I have to put my Octo on a 3 inch platform so it could operate in 9 inches of water.

I haven't picked up a sump yet... I'm trying to pull together all of the equipment for my 120g build.

I'm wanting to do a 36"x12"x17" sump. I think that comes out to a 40g. That should give me enough room for 3 chambers in the sump for the skimmer, fuge, return area.

If you don't have a sump already, then you should be good to go. The collection cup on my skimmer needs just under an inch to take it off. I think it will end up being less once the seal has broken in a little. It's new still...

yes, it will fit. I have mine in a 12x12x27h area and am very happy with it. I did remove the o-ring since the collection cup is a little too snug on there. Stick with a sponsor, I'm pretty sure they can match that price.
