Woke up to half dead birdsnest? Smh

Got up this morning only to notice my birdsnest half dead with slime all over. Have not tested my water today but did a few days ago and all was fine and all my other corals look fine. Just made a video yesterday of my tank and this thing was fine? Anyone else had this happen or have any clue what may have caused it. I've had this thing for around a yr and a half. This sucks!!

That Anemone looks suspect.... Just a guess though.

The hammer isn't close enough to touch it. The nem was catching the edge of a branch or two but its been that way for months now. The edge of a couple branches were dead but then I wake up today and almost the whole thing is dead overnight.

Oh you'd be surprised!! Hammers and frogspawns can send sweeper out to 8 inches or more. I'd suspect the anemone though. It probably got it started. Cut the dead branches away to save the rest and think about moving it.

Those nems move quick when your not looking. Could of crawled right over it.

But as said trim it up & save the rest.

Nem is in the same spot it's been for months now. It did have the edges of it dead. Could that have for some reason caused it to spread all of the sudden?

The simple answer is yes. I've had corals where just one small branch had been stung or for whatever reason died back and within a day, the whole colony was dead. In fact, just had it happen overnight this past week....there when I went to bed...completely dead the next morning. Not a thing changed in the tank. It happens.

That's weird cause I have a rbta that touches a green slimmer all the time and have no issues. Now I know we are talking about different types of coral but my rbta has touched several other corals without any affects to it.

I was going to post some photos of my hammers sweeper the other day,but it slipped my mind. It was easily 4 times the size of any other tentacles on the coral.

The reason I sold my hammers years ago was because how long the sweepers were when the lights are off..

I'm shooting more for the nem cause everything on the hammer side is still alive. It's from the nem up that's dead. Guess that small dead spot that was there got a Lil slime on it and decided to go nuts while I was sleeping.

+1 on Nem, but just to eliminate the possibility, Could you have had a AK drop or spike, maybe new salt? Did you recently do a WC? What are your exact readings and what test kits are you using? SPS do not do well with rapid AK drops or spikes

Actually haven't done a wc in prolly 3 or 4 wks now... I know, I'm slacking a little. Shouldn't have been any kind of spikes, I haven't added anything except fresh top off water.

Its funny you mention this i also came home from work just yesterday to find my pink birdsnest halfway dead. I have no nem and the frogspawn and hammer i have are at oppisite ends of the tank. Very frustraiting

Yes it is!! Luckily I have a 40 breeder frag tank that I already have a few frags growing. But they are still no where close to the size of this piece. This thing was larger than a softball and I've grown it from not even an inch tall when I got it.
