Would you set up a new 4' long in your foyer Hallway?

I'm in the process of moving into a new house and I don't have room to put my new tank in the family room or kitchen.
This house has a large foyer with a 10' wide, 30' long hallway.
It's the typical floor plan with the formal dining on one side and living on other side but its got a ton of wasted space in the hallway that leads to the kitchen and Great room.
My only other option is the formal living room which will be my office. I want it in the hallway but I'm afraid it will get damaged!

Would you worry about your tank getting scratched up with it in the "main entry" hallway?
Thank you

I wouldn't worry about damage but in the hallway it will only be seen when you walk by.

That will be a lot because my office is going past it and it will be across from a 1/2 bath. I also have a chair and floor lamp next to it. The sit and watch chair, lol

Never had an issue...2 different tanks...since 2005....

Obviously, we route certain items entering and leaning from a different entrance.

Water changes are easy, as hose goes outside....(just make sure it hits Bermuda and most other vegetation will die)

I did this once, for about 4 years I had a 150 gal in that spot, no scratch issues. It was great, it was the 1st thing I saw ever time I walked in. Not sure why you thing it would be more prone to scratches there?

Had mine sitting in the foyer (empty) waiting for me to complete the office. No problem at all. Guess I was really surprised at the lack of traffic in the foyer. Sure, there is coming and going in and out of the front door... but most of the living takes place somewhere else.

I would do it and not think back!

if its going on a wall thats shared with the office...how about making a whole so its visible from both sides?

My 125 is in the foyer, but visible from the living room and kitchen. No problems. Given the size of your foyer, sounds like you need a bigger tank.

Personally, I would not do it. I feel an aquarium needs to be where it would get maximum viewing time. No one hangs out in their foyer. Family room, den/office, man/woman cave, maybe a bedroom.

IME, taks set up in more out of the way places get less attention and less maintenance, and usually end up a failure.

ahh...it would depend how visible it was from said den/great room/tv room/ dining room....

so, I would agree except....

my foyer has one wall cut 4 foot high....this makes the Tank visible from the Living Room & Formal Dining Room....without cancelling HD effects on TV....

Yup.....a lot of it would depend on the particulars of the location. But I personally would not set it up somewhere it would not get watched often, wherever that would be. Someone might not have choice locations available as well, so whatever works.

Lol... you all had me excited about the hallway until the reasoning came in about being able to watch it easily.... Then put more for me to think about then getting scratched!!!

I wish...
I'm knocking out part of the wall in my office and putting a door to use the space under the staircase for my fish room.
You all have given me a lot to think about. I would enjoy it more in my office (formal living) and it could still be the first thing seen when entering the front door. I'll get less work done but your right the tank will get more attention from me.

I'm going to have to think about it some more now, geez it's a hard decision.
Thanks everyone, appreciate ya.

That is exactly what these forums are for. This way you get others' experience and perspective. Out of everything said, no one is necessarily right or wrong. Then you can take what you need and leave the rest.

+ 1 on his entire response; especially the man cave part. I hope to build one someday. I would also like to extend my response.

Setting up an aquarium in a foyer or high travel area of the house brings concern to me with the level of stress the aquarium members must endure, especially if you have a lot of children over for birthday parties, cub scouts, girl scouts, etc. My man cave design thoughts are a lot of viewing space between the tank and the viewers with great room lighting to accent the main focus of the room, which would be the aquarium. [Just my 1/2 cent]

If my entrance way was large enough, I'd totally do it. Yeah viewing would be a little awkward depending on the setup, but could be really cool!

I have a solution to your dilemma. Just put an aquarium in every room of your house. Now; that would be very cool. :shades:

The above statement was to your response in post #18 relating to your dilemma.

My 75 was in the entrance to my hall way and was fine minus an old woman leaning on it to get down the hallway
