I'm look to get a reef safe wrasse that will leave pods for my mandarin. I want it to clean up bristle worms and stuff like that but not touch shrimp or other critters that I've bought. Will a melanurus eat my shrimp, feather dusters or anything like that?

Get a yellow Coris Wrasse.  They are great fish and will eat bristle worms and leave everything else alone.

Ive never seen a wrasse eat a bristle worm that wasnt falling off a rock.  The melanurus will do everything you want.  Downside is all wrasses will eat pods.  Mine pecks everything off the rocks and leaves all dusters, shrimp and snails alone.

And I would be very weary of any coris wrasse with shrimp.

I had a red coris wrasee that did in fact eat shimp and constantly took frag plugs and buried them (he was gone as soon as I caught him).  But, my yellow coris wrasse hasnt touched a single shrimp in over 3+ yrs.

Last month I sold my fat 5+” Pink Spotted Goby. For over 4 years I’d NEVER seen a bristle worm in my overfeed tank EXCEPT once. The one time I saw one, it was in my Gobys mouth!

Now, a month later, I’ll see a small bristle about ever time I feed.

Can’t find the photo, it was such a perfect pic I hope I didn’t accidentally delete it!

Wrasse are my absolute favorite fish!

I’ve had 17 of the varieties over the years, Melarurus wouldn’t be a first choice.

I can't speak to how many pods the wrasse will leave, that seems like contract negations you'll need to settle with him before handing over the keys, but the wrasse I love to have in my tank is a malanarus wrasse. They are pretty, do a good job at clearing flat worms, play nice with other fish as best I can tell.

As mentioned the yellow coris is also a nice choice, however I like the coloration of the aforementioned malanarus.

I'd go with an Orange Back Fairy. Especially if Debbie is even remotely thinking of moving hers. Otherwise BluleZoo has them.

Of all the choices it will probably eat the least pod's of the bunch. I say least because they will all eat them. Generally the Orange will stay up in the water column and eat most anything you throw at it. A Melanurus will be in and out of the rock work all day and be constantly pecking at whatever it can find. I have one in my frag tank and that's what it's doing now... lol.
