Does anyone know how to kill xenia in the dt without harming anything else?

I have a major xenia problem.

I cut it off as close to the rock as possible. It just grows back. It spreads so fast before I have time to get it out more grows.

I take my nails and get under the membrane of the Xenia and pull it out. It will take more than a few times. I found out using tools will get smaller bits of it.:D

I've been controlling mine by placement. It likes high light so it doesn't seem to creep downwards. I grow it on a ledge and at the base of the ledge is a big ol frog spawn that keeps it from growing out (so far at least). To remove. I take a tooth pick and gently pry it up at the base to avoid the regrowth.

One tendency I've noticed is if there is a higher rock close by the stuff creeps onto it. You could place a small rock next to it and let it creep up for the higher light and then remove the rock. Sometimes mine leave babies behind, but sometimes not.

I may end up taking the rocks out and scrubbing it all. i traded off about 70 stalks and was down to 5. I am now back up to 50+. That is in three months time. Will try the toothpick though

Why don't you give it away? I'm sure some on here will be happy to take it from you. Try selling the stalks on eBay.

Get some forceps and turn off all flow in tour tank.Carefully, and slowly, wedge the tip of the forceps under one edge and pull up a little. Then slide the forceps a little further underneath and do the same. You'll find if you get a good enough "going", it will pull off like a carpet. Then you can nuke the left over bits with kalk paste.

If you still want to keep it (I do), then you put a barrier rock near it that can be removed (as suggested above). You have to then just keep an eye out for little babies that pop up around the tank and grab em ASAP.

I got most of it off and put it in my fowlr tank. I dont know of anything that eats xenia so I should be ok. Also removed some kenya trees and green palys and placed in the fowlr. Maybe reef tank #2. May just let it overrun with xenia and kenya trees. Might be kinda cool.

Hey man...if you're just going to toss the xenia eventually anyway, I'll take some if you want to get rid of it. I have a newer tank that needs some coverage. I don't mind the xenia stigma that a lot of the stony coral purists have. Even if it can be annoying, I like it.
