my "reef safe" yellow clown/coral goby has been nipping at a piece of green slimmer acro for several weeks and I had decided to just let the acro go and see if it makes it. However today I picked up a nice Duncan and within an hour that little SOB started tearing the polyps off of the Duncan. he's not just nipping at them, he's litteraly tearing them off and eating them. it may be because I spot fed the Duncan, but there was plenty of food in the tank for everyone.

why is this fish sold as reef safe, and yet they're anything but in my tank?

As far as I have always heard clown gobys are known for eating SPS polyps..

Not to sure about the duncan though.. Im trying to trap a butterfly right now that has a taste for zoa's..

Thry require SPS polyps to thrive, not suprised he took a likeing to the Duncans. At least he is happy :D

well, that's not what I had read or was told when I bought it. I read they "may" nip at some acro's, but this guy is going mid-evil on my Duncan and I may have to do the same when I finally catch him.

You're gonna eat your Duncans too? :yuk:

I have one in my seahorse tank. I dont have any sps in ther ebut have softies and leathers in there.. He doesnt bother anything.. He picked out a large mushroom and sits on it all the time, but it doesn't seem to bother the shroom.
However, I do have a fox face tang in my main display that has taken a liking to my colt coral.. :/ He doesn't bother anything else though..

 ha... I was thinking more like tearing his limbs off like he's doing to the duncan, but I'd of course never be that cruel. I'll just take him back.

I do have two in the tank and the other never bothers any of the corals, so I guess it just depends on the fish.

I had a yellow clown goby that killed off a wonderful pink acan frag I got from Einstein Aquatics. Needless to say, after that, he was out.

Most stores will say the "may nip at acros," but from what I've seen in the real world, they will take a liking to many different types of corals.

what's the best method to catch a fish that is impossible to catch in a net. last night I tried putting a little food in a submerged plastic water bottle, but he never figured out how to get to the food. I'll try again today by putting it in a different spot, but is there an trick to setting up a diy trap?

got him! it just took a little food in a net to coax him near it, then swoop he was caught. I'll take him back today.
