So the tank has been up for almost a year and no problems at all but i think im going to redo my sump and i have noticed that the silicone that hold my acrylic baffles in is yellow. Im worried that this will soon kill my tank and ruin the hobby for me. I either used GE 1 silicone or some marineland aquarium silicone but i dont remember. There are pools of yellow liquid looking spots in the silicone and just need some help.

Just Yellow

Hmm interesting, no ideas just tagging along, I know silicon that doesn't have any UV additive will yellow from UV light in the sun but it doesn't really look like that, unless your sump is sitting in the sun or you have UV lights in there I doubt that is it.

It kinda looks like algae is growing on it. Interesting for sure

It has been pretty much dark until last week so i doubt its UV exposure.

Did you build it your self if so it may be the silicon you used I built my sump and it did the same thing but every thing has been happy and healthy for 3 years now so I wouldn't worry about it to much

Might be a reaction between the acrylic and the silicon. Where did you get the acrylic from?

Do you know how old the acrylic is. I think old acrylic can yellow like that when in saltwater.

No idea and just so i done get confused the acrylic is still clear the silicone is yellow but you are saying the acrylic is having some kind of chemical reaction with the silicone and saltwater?
