I see people who isolate zoanthids and some that have them spread variously through their tanks. Does it matter or will they bother SPS and other corals alike?

To me, it’s more about controlling where zoas/ palys grow within the tank. Some are more aggressive growers than others and can take over your rock work.

In my previous mixed reef I'd just use some sharp tweezers to trim back my zoas once a month or so to keep them from growing onto my SPS. Zoas wouldn't hurt them directly, but if left alone would start to grow over the SPS.

I just think it looks bad ass when there “skittles” all over your tank lol and I have a zoanthids rock but I have this play that’s growing over them so fast and I want to save these little guy and help them flourish lol
