Zoas on back glass

I've searched around and there are a lot of threads saying its doable, but no follow-ups or photos.
I guess just check back with me in 12 months lol

Definitely give us an update, I have a Montipora on the back wall and it is growing just slow and steady.

If you have T5 then thing will grow every where in your tank. For LED, it is a little harder to grow on the back. Just my 2 cents.

I missed this the first time but do have some experience growing zoas on back glass. When I've done it, the only place they would grow was over coralline algae that had already grown on the glass. In fact, I could corral the things but scraping away the coralline and exposing the smooth back glass to keep them from spreading too much. At the time I was using T5s and it worked alright. When I switched to only LEDs they really started growing funny trying to orient themselves to the light. It was an early indication that I would eventually need a hybrid fixture.

Side note: I'm not much of a zoa guys and I believe these were called "eagle eye" zoas and it happened by accident. I've never tried any of the fancier varieties but I assume it would work if you've got some coralline growth.

That’s a cool way to propagate them! I was considering doing that with GSP.

i just realized that my back glass isn't even glass - its acrylic (aio).

that being said, does anyone know if leptoseris will grow/spread on acrylic?

fyi - to confirm @jcook54 's experience, zoas are growing weirdly towards the light source but not spreading.

Here’s my radioactive zoa colony growing up on the back glass. Wasn’t planned

And here’s my red monti cap on the back glass

These were the only photos I could find online. Definitely adds a captivating unique touch.
