Well I decided to make a 10 gallon frag tank so I can actually place some of my frags somewhere to grow out. So, so far I have the lights setup the tank and and currently setting up a Diy overflow with a sump. The sump was my old fluval edge 6 gallon. I just smashed the top (not reccomdeded) and now it's a rimless tank lol. The lights are a MH with a phoneix 14k bulb. And the tank is just a simple 10 gallon. So far this build has cost me around 80$ to build. I did have lots of old equipment laying around. I will be able to post picture in about a hour when I get home. Just thought I would share.

Does anyone know if I can get a HOB filter and drill a hole in it to use a as a HOBoverflow box?

Is drill it and put a 1" bulkhead and a 1"90 for the drain.

Well this is a budget so I don't have the choice to drill. I finished making my HOB overflow. I've have heard some bad things about them but I'm going to use a float valve to make it fail safe.

You'll need a way to "prime" that overflow. The water will not push the air out of the "U" that goes over the top edge of the tank

Yes. I know. I just drilled a whole. I'm thinking about getting a aqualifter pumpnto prime it.

any ideas to do with the sump? It's only a 6 gallon so I think I'm still going to go with the refuge. Do I have to put dividers in it?-

might only have room for a return pump and skimmer

yea theres no room for a fuge in a 6 gallon. just stick with the skimmer and return pump. you may be able to fit a maxijet for a reactor in there so you can run some carbon and gfo.

also can you post another pic of the pvc overflow? i think the drain on the back side may be too low. i built one of those before just to give it a shot and see how well it worked and it did well but one thing to remember is to keep it from tilting to the left as it will lower the intake. i see you have it as far to the left as possible so that it sits up against the side of the tank to prevent it tilting but if it gets bumpped you may still end up with that problem. i tried a suction cup for a heater which fit perfectly around the pipe and it worked well for a bit they are known to fail. you might want to try rigging up something to hang over the side of the tank to hold it up.

I got a HOB skimmer. It should be coming in soon. It's pretty small. And any ideas for a return pump. Looking for something under 40$ If possible.

I decided not to do a sump. I'm going to order a HOB Refugium. I need a maxijet for it but the one I got was to powerful.

use the mj 400. im not sure if they even make those any more but it was very slow and i used it on a gfo reactor a couple years ago.

+1 I know I'm trying to buy one but need to sell my other one first.

I've got a hob refarge I would trade for a cheap frag if you have anything laying around that I don't have
:)
