120G Build thread

I built it following the 2x4 structure on RC. Hope this is cool mods, just showing where I got the frame template from. If you take a look at the color coated pieces and notice I didn't use the blue piece in the middle of the top box or the green pieces, they are only there for added support and aren't needed in my case since the entire stand is surrounded by pine framing.

It's white kilz on the inside.

They must have a new version since the last time I looked at it since you used pocket screws instead of the extra braces on the inside. Good idea on the kilz, I should have done that instead of staining and poly-coating mine. Did you caulk the inside seams?

It really looks good, great job!

Pocket screws was my idea to add, they seem a bit cleaner and it allowed me to clamp everything and then screw it so it doesn't move on me at the last minute. I'll be adding caulk once the paint dries. I think a nice bead around the edges should help with water proofing....resisting....maybe.

Thanks for the compliment!

It's taking forever for the **** stain to dry, 7 hrs my butt! I've got the fast drying polly in a can I'm about to spray as soon as the stain is good and dry.

Drain and return plumbing come tomorrow, I'm excited now. Should be in the house tonight or tomorrow...soon I hope. I'm getting tired of dealing with the rubbermade tub...not happy about it.

How is Kristi? How long did the drive take? AND it is a good thing that the household didn't arrive because I know it would still be in boxes.
We just got back from PA. Sunday and until 3 min. ago I had not seen your posts. I am so happy that everyting made it, unlike my move to GA. Miss you oh God of the Tank, and I can see that you are moving at your normal God like speed for the good of the tank, what else is there?
According to Bob, nothing. Will be keeping track of your build. It sure is great knowing that you both arrived safely along with the tank et al.
Ordered a mated pr of Manderins today....no big deal in your world.
Have yourself a happy, and my love to Mrs. P. Heat. Bubba

Kristy is good, the drive took about 20hrs and when Kristy got behind the wheel in La the 12ft trailer got wiggly and spun us off the road and into the ditch. We're fine and the only thing that got damaged was the truck but we were able to get it back on the road and continue the drive. Didn't lose a single coral, just one Cromis when we spun off the road a rock shifted and crushed him.

Here is an update. Sump will be online today when the stand pipes come in.

Looking good Jason! You've got me wanting a bigger tank now...lol

Thanks! The 120g is as large as I can go. I can't lift anything larger than that by my self. Not like i can dead lift this sucker but i can prop one side up on the stand and then lift the other.....anything larger and even that would be impossible.

Got to build the hood today....next weekend i'll tackle the doors.

I still don't have water going through the sump though. I ordered two RR plumbing kits form Pet boulevard and they forgot to ship one of them. I called them and asked if they could expedite the other one they forgot and the guy on the phone said he will check with the warehouse and call me back.....well he never called me back. Nice customer service. That is the last thing I EVER order from Pet Boulevard.

HA! Building the doors now for the stand and hood. Hood is done just needs stain and polly. My other RR kit will be here on Wed....no expedited shipping from Pet Boulevard, just a sorry we forgot and standard ground shipping.....and that's the last thing I ever buy from them.

My other MH cord will be here on Wed also, will be done with the hood by then too so it can be mounted. Now i'm running the metal halide over half the tank for 5 hrs and then switching it to the other side. The hood is 26" tall and will fit the luminbright large pendants nicely.

side note: Two Vortech MP40s is INSANE in a 48" tank! Love the flow, it's as random as it can get! SPS are lovin it!

went into Exotic today and saw your old tank....i'm surprised someone hasn't snatched it up yet!

Some updates.

All the lights are working now, I'm still in need of another power strip to mount under the tank. That should clean up the rest of the wires.

Corals are getting their color back and the new rock i added is starting to get covered in reef goodness. More pictures to come once the MH come on.

Looks fantastic can't wait till it's 100% an dwe can see your beautiful colored corals thriving.
Got 2 lyre tail Anthias.....also just read that they have to be fed 3 times a day..heck, that's more times than I eat. Originally purchased 1 male and 3 females, two of the fm's didn't make it, I guess it is too late to replace them to make a haram. Also got a red lobo and 2 mandarins. Smoothie said I would do broke trying to feed two of them....he also pointed me to a baby food jar method of feeding....just don't think I'll like the looks of that. Don't say grow your own pods........I don't even grow my own nails.
Great to see that all is going well. Have you started your new position?
Keep the pictures coming. Have yourself a happy.....Bubba

Some pictures with the lights on. Some corals have lost a good bit of color during the move.
