14g Media basket and carbon quantity

I have just purchased a media basket for my 14g biocube. I also purchased some purigen and bulk carbon. Plan to get some filter floss at Wallmart.

My question is how much carbon should I put into a media bag and how often should I change it? Can I do too much? Doesn't seem like they put much in the filter they sell for the tank.

I plan on removing the stock carbon filter and the floss in the pump chamber. Then every three months change the Purigen (I'll watch the color).
