I am changing my grandmothers fish tank to Saltwater. It is a 20 gallon. Here is a list of what I think I need. Ant other things you might think of please let me know.

Maxi Jet
New lights for coral and live rock
Sand

Should I get Skimmer and a new Hang On Back Filter?
Anything else I might need?

May need to tell your Grandmother your doing this! Get rid of the freshwater fish, unless their Mollies the change won't be to good for them! lol just messin with you.

The tank is currently dry because they took it apart before they went on vaccation for a month. All that is in there is a lighthouse and plastic plants, Some blue rocks to cover the bottom.

hey I have a 29gallon and I just bought a 150watt sunpod mh.....I understand it to be a pretty good light

Ummm, well since money is not a problem.... ;)

I would go with a Turbofloto 1000 multi HOB skimmer or maybe an AquaC Skimmer for the 20 gal.. For the light, I know I should say LED since money is not an option but I think that will change with the price of the LED lighting! ;) Halide might be over kill on a 20 gal but a nice T-5 hood should work nice and let you do whatever you want with the tank.

On my 20, I have a CPR Aquafuge Large with the built in protein skimmer, autotopoff system, 2 koralia nano powerheads (soon to be 4), and a 150 Watt Sunpod. I found http://www.petmountain.com">www.petmountain.com</a> to have the best prices on the sunpods, [IMG]http://www.aquabuys.com">www.aquabuys.com</a> for the koralia nanos and topoff system, and I forget where I got the aquafuge. This system is easy to upkeep and allows me to have SPS, LPS, and Softies. Definitely get an auto topoff if using the CPR Aquafuge w/ PS. Otherwise, you will be constantly adjusting the skimmer.

Good Luck:up:

even if you think it is too expansive please put it on here because I am going to come up with diffrent price lists to show them and tell them the difference and let them pick and choose.

well this would be overkill, a bubble king, deltec, euro reef rs80, or a das 1 skimmer. i seen dimable mh on a friends tank and they look nice so maybe those from blue line aquatics.

a nice 10g sump, 10g fuge, 10 frag tank. that would be my dream 20g tank.

We'll see what his dad says!

Up to you... Some will say yes, some will say no.. I will say, for grandma and grandpa, yes get them a coralife turbo-twist 3x or 6x. Get a microjet pump to run it. You are good to go from there.
